Yellowstone National Park

Our first Yellowstone family photo.

After setting up camp at the Mountainside KOA, we headed into the park to explore.
First stop, Gibbon Falls.

Next we went to the Norris Geyser Basin to show the kids the
unique features of this park- fumeroles, geysers and hot springs.

A boiling hot spring!

Next, the Artist's Paintpots.

The next morning we took them to see the iconic symbol of Yellowstone, Old Faithful.
We watched the geyser reach a height of 185 ft while a gorgeous rainbow appeared its base.

Afterwards we walked around the Upper Geyser Basin to show them some of my favorite geysers.

On the way home we drove thru an enormous herd of bison! There were hundreds!

We began our last day at Grand Prismatic, my favorite hot spring.

The West Thumb Geyser Basin was our next stop. This is such a neat area right along the lake.

The "fishing cone" is a pocket of boiling water along the lake's edge.
You could theoretically catch and cook a fish all at once here.

We then went to the Grant Village Visitor Center where the kids received their Jr Ranger badges. Each of the visitor centers in Yellowstone have some really great interactive exhibits and they all have a different focus. We enjoyed visiting three while we were here. On our way home, while Journey slept, Asher and I went for a walk around the fountain paint pots area together.

Look at the red mud spurting out!
