Jasper National Park {Athabasca Falls, Glacier & Columbia Icefield}

The Icefields Parkway in Alberta, Canada, has been deemed one of the most scenic drives in the world. It's the route that takes you thru both Jasper and Banff National Parks, the Canadian Rockies, past the Columbia Icefield and more glaciers than can be counted.

Our first stop along the Icefields Parkway was Athabasca Falls, a stunning blue waterfall that has carved its way thru a canyon and makes its way to a dazzling blue lake.

Much to my husband's chagrin, I recently bought a "selfie stick". The kids think it's so fun. I was laughing so hard when I turned around to see them like this.

The drive is really pretty.

We drove past this platform that hangs out over the valley.
If you look closely, you can see people standing on the edge of it.

Our next stop was the Icefields center where we hiked out to the Athabasca Glacier.

Daddy was here 14 years ago and was shocked to see how far the glacier has receded since his visit.

The kids were quite disappointed that you're not allowed to walk all the way to the glacier and touch it. There are tours that you can pay for that will drive you out onto the glacier and allow you to walk on it, but those are quite pricey.

There is a small area in the basement of the Icefields Center with photos and displays. My favorite was the map showing the overwhelming size of the icefield. Journey is pointing to the "tiny" glacier that we just hiked to. So you can see how large the icefield is in comparison!

Shortly after this stop we reached the delineation line between Jasper National Park and Banff National Park.
