Kootenay National Park

There are four national parks all basically touching each other, Jasper, Banff, Kootenay and Yoho that lie in Alberta and British Colombia. There are even a few more within a few hours from these. We visited five of them, but if we'd had more time, we would have loved to see them all!

While camping at Lake Louise, we drove out to Kootenay National Park to explore.
First we hiked over the Vermillion River along the Paint Pots trail with our friends.

Their Xplorer books instructed them to paint a picture using the ochre color here.
The rust color is due to iron minerals deposited from springs.

After the two morning hikes (one at Banff), the kids were tired,
so Daddy stayed with them while I hiked Marble Canyon alone.

I love this lone tree rising from the natural arch over the canyon!

Seven footbridges cross over the 120ft deep canyon.
