Banff National Park {Moraine Lake & Johnston Canyon}

Not far from Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada is another picture perfect lake of a different shade of blue, Moraine Lake. We hiked the overlook trail to have a fantastic view of the Valley of the Ten Peaks and the lake below.

I found it interesting that in Banff it is illegal to hike thru some areas
in groups fewer than four because of the risk of bear encounters.

The overlook was at the top of that rocky, treed mound in the front, center.
It looks so small from this vantage point.

The next day we hiked Johnston Canyon together.

Walking along the catwalk anchored to the limestone canyon walls was a neat experience.

Here we walked right up to the waterfall thru the natural tunnel on the right!

The same waterfall from above.

After this we all headed over to Kootenay National Park for a bit, which will be a separate post. Later, back at the campground, we all took a walk to the river where the kids played with rocks and My Little Ponies. We were camped in the hard sided campground. Right across the river is the tent campground. There's an electric fence around it to keep grizzlies, elk and other animals away from the tent campers. I've never heard of such a thing before, but I LIKE IT!

It was time to say goodbye to our friends.
We had a great time with them and hope to meet up again down the road!

Our last day we spent the day exploring at Yoho National Park (see separate post)
before birding at Vermillion Lakes on our way to the town of Banff.

There are a number of wildlife overpasses here which allow a safe place
for the animals to cross without creating a danger for themselves or others. Love this!

We enjoyed walking around the cute, little town before stopping for dinner at Eddie's Burgers.
