Tide Pools and Sea Lions in La Jolla

While researching the best locations for tide pooling in San Diego, I found La Jolla is also a popular place to watch sea lions. We just had to go. By the way, it's best to pull up the tide schedule, pick the lowest tide (that you'll be awake for) and arrive an hour before that.

We found crabs, fish and sea anemones like this one.

We found the sea lions relaxing by the Children's Pool area. (There is no pool, it's just a name.)

I love this guy. His white with black spots coloring remind me of a dalmatian.

It's such a pretty place. I'd love to return with a blanket and a book.

A couple weeks later we searched the tide pools at Coronado Beach. We ended up bringing a couple blue band hermit crabs home with us. I read that they like to change shells, often looking for one that is the perfect size for their growing body. We were excited to catch this guy out of his shell. We were shocked that they can change shells in the blink of an eye, and kept missing it as he jumped from one to another.
