Cabrillo National Monument

Cabrillo National Monument is a place I've loved for a few years now. We found it when the kids were only 18 months old and just enjoyed playing in the sand. This time they were excited to hike around and explore the tide pools. Since we were staying in the area for awhile, we visited twice. The first time we went with friends on a beautifully warm, clear day. We had a great view of the Pacific Ocean, San Diego and Mexico's Coronado Islands in the distance.

We climbed to the top of the lighthouse and saw the rooms where the family lived while staying there to run the lights.

Back at the visitor center we tried on Spanish armor. I was shocked that the chain metal armor that I put on weighed about as much as one of my kids! The kids turned in their completed workbooks and received Junior Ranger badges.

Our next visit we made sure to arrive right before low tide so we could explore the creatures that remained in the tide pools. We found crabs, chiton, sea anemones and gobs and gobs of these creatures, Pelagic Red Crabs.
