Climbing Mt Jo in New York's Adirondack Mountains

After nearly a week in the Finger Lakes we drove North almost to the Canadian border, settling
in Lake Placid for a week. All of the roads up here are winding, and seeing a roadside lake like
this with a couple men fly-fishing was a typical, delightful sight. *One day I will try fly-fishing!

This is where the Olympics were held in 1932 and 1980. We really got a kick out of seeing where the games took place and seeing the tracks, especially the long, winding bobsled track.  For $80pp (+ I'm assuming a waiver of liability for serious injuries or death) you can actually ride one down the track. Hmmm, tempting, but no thanks.

This is Whiteface Mountain where the skiing games were held.

Here you can see the 26-story, 120 meter Olympic ski jump towering above the trees. When seeing it in person, it's hard to believe that people would want to ski down that at terrifying speeds. It's much more intimidating than a mountain, in my opinion.

It's been a few months since we climbed a mountain, so we were pretty excited to
get out and climb Mt Jo. It was a fun, rewarding hike with interesting surroundings.

Lollipop break!

Yes, they even share lollipops!

During the hike up, clouds gathered and rain fell. I was concerned that after all the work to get up there, we would see nothing but the inside of the clouds. I prayed and as we reached the summit, the rain stopped and the cloud covering lifted just enough to let some sun thru and give us that rewarding view.

A view of Heart Lake from the top of Mt Jo.

After relaxing with a snack, it was time to head back down the mountain.

Hiding to scare Daddy and Asher.

We play this game where one of us chants "machu piccu" while slowly chasing the kids. Weird, yes, it comes from one of their Bubble Guppies shows. They love it and it makes hikes more exciting when they are getting tired. Daddy is chasing them machu piccu-style here.
