Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah

Just outside of Canyonlands National Park is this gem of a state park. It's a peninsula shaped plateau that jets out 2000 ft above the meandering Colorado River below. Now this is the third place that we have been that overlooks bends in the Colorado in the last few weeks, but THIS ONE beats them all! Many people comment that it's even more impressive than the Grand Canyon, and I wouldn't disagree!

Why Dead Horse Point? According to legend, the area was used to corral wild mustangs by just blocking off the 30ft wide neck with branches. At one point the horses were left corralled for too long without water and they died of thirst with the view of the river below. Tragic.

Quite a few movies were filmed here including Mission Impossible 2 and Con-Air.
You remember that legendary scene in Thelma and Louise? Yep, filmed here!
