The kids fell asleep on our way to the park, so Daddy stayed with them while they napped so I could hike Double Arch. It was fun and a unique formation.
the view from directly under the arch
They woke up in time to hike around Balanced Rock with us.
Someday this rock will fall.
There was a similar rock balancing to the right of this and it fell years ago after a heavy rain.
A view including snow-capped mountains never gets old.
The most known arch in Utah is Delicate Arch, it's on their license plates, restaurant logos, and signs all over the state. Hiking to it was on my list even though it was 3 miles and we would likely be carrying the kids the whole time. Fortunately my husband had the bright idea to let the kids take turns using his hiking stick and that did the trick to get them to "hike with their feet" again! Woohoo! Journey actually went back to her old ways of refusing to let us carry her, but that was a pleasant change after a strenuous couple months of hiking while carrying both the whole time.
We made it back to the bottom just as the dark was settling in. We drove back to Balanced Rock and heard a tiny voice whine from the backseat, "not another hiiiike", surprisingly the first hiking protest we've heard. But it wasn't another hike, rather time to stargaze for a bit. It was so peaceful relaxing in the back of the truck in the pitch black night. We were hoping to catch a couple falling stars, but no luck this time.
