Canyonlands National Park, Utah - Needles

The other part of Canyonlands that we explored was the Needles District. It's the Southern section of the park and has considerably fewer visitors than the popular Island in the Sky district to the North.

We hiked the Cave Spring trail which takes you thru a cave with petroglyphs.

They love cairns (stacked rocks that mark the trail).

The ladders were Asher's favorite part. He kept asking to go back so he could climb them again.

The Pothole Point trail was unique in that it showed us a whole little world that lies dormant, yet springs alive when rainwater collects in the potholes. We found teeny tiny tadpoles, brine shrimp (sea monkeys) and these bizarre creatures- tadpole shrimp.

Asher now believes that these little things live in all puddles and insists on checking them whenever he spots one.

On our way out of the park we stopped at Newspaper Rock, one of the largest know collections of petroglyphs. I could spend a long time gazing at these figures and trying to figure out what they all mean.
