Hawaii

We arrived to Hickham around midnight, so our only transportation option was a taxi. A $100 fare later, we made it to our cabin in the cover of dark. We could hear the loud crash of the waves and I could hardly wait for daylight to see the view. A chorus of birds alerted us to the coming sun, a delightful noise, even after such little sleep. This gorgeous view awaited us:

Blue water, white sand, and green palm trees, Hawaii was everything I'd hoped it would be. We spent two weeks on Oahu. We stayed in a rustic cabin on the beach at Bellows Air Station. It had no water or electricity, but it was exactly what we needed and only cost $30/night!

This was such a fun, beautiful place to relax for awhile.

We spent our first few days enjoying relaxing on the beach, but then we were drawn to begin exploring the island. Also food was an issue since the only options without a vehicle were Subway and the shopette. Fortunately we were able to find a good deal on a rental car for a week so we could get out and explore.

While on the island, we saw small black wild pigs and a couple mongooses. One came right up on our porch one night. I discovered lots of new birds, and found a new favorite, the red-crested cardinal.

Asher found the skull of a bird.
