Ollantaytambo and Naupaiglesia

After Machu Picchu, we wanted to spend some time in Sacred Valley and chose to stay in Ollantaytambo. We arrived via the train and found tuk tuks waiting to take us to our hotel.

The market just outside the train station. Our tuk tuks were waiting at the end of the market.

Inside the tuk tuk. They only seat two passengers, so we used two.

From our balcony, you can see the archeological site on the mountain to the right.

We found a spot for dinner on a second floor balcony overlooking the square. Below us they were setting up green tents in preparation for a bicycle race the next day.

We were fascinated to see archeological sites visible from most of the town.

We love the stone streets and buildings. Down this way is a cafe and ice cream shop.

Checking out the local market.

The owner of the hotel took us to explore a local site. On the way we passed these very unique, glass hotel pods built into the mountain. When I checked they were going for $1000/night and were fully booked for the near future. For those with a lower budget who want an adventurous date, they offer day tours where you climb up, enjoy lunch and zipline down.

Our destination: Naupaiglesia.

The trail followed the river, then railroad tracks before coming to a VERY steep climb to the archeological site.

While here our host explained this is a sacred site where his father-in-law, a shaman, takes people to perform ceremonies and make sacrifices to pachemama.

Time to fill our bellies!
