What's more exciting than exploring the Peruvian Amazon? Doing it at night! Three of us were pretty interested in this adventure. One was a bit hesitant. It started off with a boa! William took us to peer beneath a structure where a Rainbow Boa was resting. I was very excited to see this snake in the wild! The owner, was not as excited. William explained this snake is beneficial, not harmful to humans, and some of his guests, like yours truly, love to see this kind of wildlife. I hope this was helpful in changing his perspective of snakes on his property.
We set off on our slow hike, looking for creatures along the way. We found frogs, caterpillars and moths.
And then we arrived at a water-filled cave! Asher went first and found a few bats.
As we moved further in, William pointed out Tailless Whip scorpions clinging to the sides of the narrow walls. One was the size of a dinner plate if you count the legs which are super long! Here Asher is taking a photo of one.
When we shined a flashlight into the water, small fish, with eyes glowing, would swim right at the light. It was actually really strange and kind of creepy.
An interesting plant (above). Of course I found some cool spiders.
There was a shadow puppet show.
This night hike was Asher's favorite part of our jungle experience. Daddy and I really enjoyed it too. Journey was pretty freaked out by the darkness and whip scorpions, even though they're harmless. Her favorite part of the night was seeing a bamboo rat chomping away on a tree during the return hike.
