Mississippi

On our way to Louisiana, we decided to stop at the marina in Pass Christian, Mississippi. I saw on the map where shrimp and crab boats bring in their catch and I thought that would be cool to see. When we arrived I went and talked to one of the fisherman to find out what time people usually bring in their catch. He said, "come back in a few weeks". Shoot! He said the season hadn't really started yet and they were mainly doing work on their boats now to get them ready.

We went to the market to see what they had for sale, crabs, oysters, shrimp and more. The guy showed us the
"vacuum" (the large silver cylinders) that they use to remove the crawfish or whatever from the boat.
It moves them up a conveyer belt to the market to be weighed.

Next we spent a few hours on the beach. There were thousands of birds sitting on the beach, so
many that the beach looked black in places. The kids love chasing seagulls, so this was a blast for them.

We found lots of fish bones on the beach and then just a head, a very large one.

Asher was exploring the current in the stream flowing out to the sea.

We've never seen these birds before, called black skimmers, but they were all over this beach.

On to Louisiana.....
