Lake Georgetown

We chose to stay an hour north of Austin at a COE (Corps of Engineers) park near our friend, Gio. It was a large site situated on a bluff overlooking Lake Georgetown. A perfect view to watch people boating and waterskiing below. Our neighbor was the camp host. They placed several hummingbird feeders at their site which drew up to ten birds at a time. During our drive, I managed to sprain my ankle significantly, so I was happy to have such a nice site to relax and recover.

Water balloons! It was so fun to watch them chase each other around with these. The funniest part being that they were both pretty much dry even at the end of it. They loved it!

One day Daddy took the kids kayaking in the lake and paddled all the way to our 

campsite so they could waive to me. As you can see it's a pretty steep drop to the lake.

One day we found this Giant Redheaded Centipede at our campsite. Gio was there and warned us that they are venomous and he had heard men scream at night from getting bit! Of course it ended up running right under our RV and I immediately began panicking at the thought of him crawling up into our RV. He was on top of our tire which is not far from where he could enter if he really wanted. What came next was pretty comical. Daddy turned the hose on him while I watched from the other side, afraid to lose sight of it. Gio was holding a piece of wood, ready to beat it to death. This thing would not budge even with the pressure of the hose. I guess I'd be able to hold my ground too if I had 42 legs! Eventually we flushed him out and Gio did his thing. Whew! Even the ranger was relieved that we killed it and said the remains would remain there for quite some time as even the scavenger animals will not touch it due to the venom.

Remember the moth we kept from Ohio last August?! Well she decided this was a good place to finally emerge from her cocoon. We noticed late at night and set her on the table to surprise the kids in the morning. They were very excited!

They showed her off to Gio, then released her (after making sure that polymepheus moths are indigenous to the area). 

While in Georgetown, Gio's friends invited us over for dinner. They have a daughter close in age to Asher and Journey and they had a ball playing together and jumping on their trampoline. Later in the week we had dinner with Gio and his parents and surprised Daddy with an early birthday celebration. Turns out there is a number of candles that you can't possibly light before the first ones disappear into the cake, even with three people lighting them. I'll just let you guess how many that is.

We made friends with two families that camped next to us for the weekend. Kevin and Roxanne's mom made the most amazing coconut sunflower oatmeal cookies. She was nice enough to give us the recipe, so going forward, I think I'll call these delicious treats "Texas cookies". They introduced us to the game "Cards Against Humanity" and we stayed up late into the night playing and laughing with them. Wish they could have stayed longer.
