From Halifax, we drove north along the Cabot Trail, a 297km (185 mile) loop road that circles Cape Breton. It was a beautiful drive with roads winding thru the hills and along the ocean, however, there are very few places to pull over to see the views, so that was disappointing. In my opinion, the best views are actually along the coastal trail on the far northeast section. If you come all the way here, don't skip that section!
We stayed at Hide Away Campground in Dingwall near the north end of the island (see view from our campground below). The owners are really sweet people. They loved interacting with our children and even helped jump our truck multiple times when we had battery issues.
One day we drove up to Meat Cove, the northernmost community in Nova Scotia. A short hike thru the forest brought us to this rewarding view.
On the small penninsula, is a really cool campground, but located so far north, a bit isolated. We ate a delicious seafood lunch at the adjacent cafe. They have the BEST chowder!
Along our hike I was intrigued be these trees that grow spikes on the inside of them.
