Driving to Alaska {Washington Border to Prince George}

On April 30 we set off on our two week drive from Washington state to Anchorage, Alaska. We had 2,200 miles ahead of us but we had decided to take it somewhat slowly and enjoy the ride. We crossed the border into Canada at Sumas. FYI- RVs go thru the lane marked "car", not the one marked "truck". We followed the directions for trucks and it turns out they mean commercial trucks and those delivering an RV to someone else, mmmkay.

DAY 1
Right away we saw nice mountains and interesting views.

We used the Milepost book and I cannot recommend it enough. It shows every single sign, stop and view that you see along the way on every single highway that you could possibly take from the US border thru Canada and Alaska. You simply must have it if you are making the drive.

The book helped us plan places that we wanted to see, stay for the night
or pull over for a break. This roadside lake was the perfect spot to enjoy our dinner.
We stopped at Chasm Provincial Park. Canada has provincial parks all along the highway. They are like small state parks with an interesting natural feature. This one is referred to as the miniature "Grand Canyon" of Canada.

We saw a couple bighorn sheep on the other side of the canyon,
then walked back to the RV to find this group on the side of the road.

We ended up sleeping here for the night.

 DAY 2

We stopped at Pinnacle Provincial Park to hike around a bit. I would NOT recommend this for RVs. It is a VERY steep road up to the park, no where to turn around or park if there are other cars there. Fortunately we were able to back into the short driveway and park there but we had to leave half of our group in case someone needed us to move. Just don't do it with a long RV!

We boondocked in the Treasure Cove Casino parking lot in Prince George so we could do a few things in the area the next morning.

Day 3

First we spent a couple hours at the Exploration Place Museum, which is ASTC, so free for us.

The kids held baby chickens and pet a crested gecko.

We hiked the trails at Cottonwood Cove Park looking for carvings like this one. I believe there are 12 hidden thru out the forest, but we only found 4.

I love their Canada shirts we found at Walmart for $4.
