After the Tsukiji Fish Market and temple, we took the train across town to Shinjuku
for a bird's eye view of Tokyo from the Government Building's 45th floor observation deck.
See what we did there? (Journey in the corner)
Of course the fact that the observation deck was basically a toy/souvenir store,
was probably more interesting to them than the view.
See that beautiful greenspace amidst the concrete?
That's Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden where we're headed next.
But first....
Walking thru Shinjuku.
uh, hello, kitties.
Originally the residence of a feudal lord, the gardens were first completed in 1772, but mostly destroyed in the air raids of WWII in 1945. They were rebuilt and opened to the public in 1949 as Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
There are more than a dozen types of sakura (cherry) trees here that bloom at different times extending the viewing season. As a result, this is one of the best places in town to view the blossoms.
{Asher took this photo of us.}
Running thru the trees.
So much variety in the different gardens here.
We were here in March. I bet this is gorgeous in the summer when it's green!
A beautiful Yulan magnolia tree, look at those huge blossoms! And they smell delightful too!
