Wisconsin's Door County

We spent five days in Door County, the peninsula in Northeast Wisconsin that connects to the rest of the state at Green Bay. Our first impression?....they have MONSTER mosquitos that attack with a vengeance! We stayed at Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay which is a beautiful place, heavily treed next to the bay. A combination of rain and darkness due to the tree cover, made for an ideal breeding ground for those blood sucking monsters. In the 15 minutes it took us to unhook and setup the RV, I had been bitten 14 times...on one leg...from the knee down! I didn't bother counting the other leg. These also weren't normal bites, they were huge, like the size of a nickel and one swelled to golf ball size! Needless to say we didn't spend much time outside at this campsite.

Our first day we drove the full peninsula from Sturgeon Bay to Gills Rock, stopping for awhile at a lakeside playground before having lunch at Fred & Fuzzy's Grill in Sister Bay. This is the view from our table.

A view on our drive home.

We went to Praise in the Park, where we listened to a Christian band sing uplifting songs.

We found this "Free Little Library" at the same park. You can take or leave a book
and the bench next to it was perfect to read a children's book to my kids.

We then walked to the bay and were pleasantly surprised to get to watch the
drawbridge rise a few times to allow sailboats to move beneath.

This boat reminded me of a concept car. Doesn't seem real, but it is and it's enormous.
Look at the normal sized boats to the left! I had to look this up and found more
info about this very unique golden boat here

Another day we rented a paddleboat and a kayak to explore the bay.
We found a large crawfish, lots of small fish and a 15" sturgeon fish!

We then climbed the 60ft tower for a view of the bay that we had just navigated.

Found this sturgeon skeleton on our way back to our campsite.
