Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, Green Bay, Wisconsin

We drove to Green Bay to take the kids to the Bay Beach Amusement Park only to arrive and find that it's closed thru the week. Shoot! Fortunately the Wildlife Sanctuary located right across the street  was so fun that they forgot all about missing out on rides. First we explored their Nature Center which I would classify as a children's museum.

It had many items on display and fun ways to observe them, like crawling thru the cave or the twirly slide that takes you from the 3rd floor eagle's nest to an "underwater world" on the 2nd floor! The first floor has a large collection of rocks, fossils, gemstones, and more.

Different displays were in each hole showing creatures that live underground; Ants, mice, moles, etc.

A snake skeleton and two skulls- The one with the fangs is poisonous and the other with many small, sharp, rear-facing teeth is nonpoisonous. Both look like they would do some serious damage though.

Outside, the nature path takes you to animals that were injured and taken in by the sanctuary. They cannot be returned to the wild because of their injuries or because of their human interactions so they remain in permanent residence at the sanctuary. The collection is impressive. Our favorite animals were the badger, eagles, owls and one particular otter who gave us quite the show. He came right up to us, then went swimming and came to us again, over and over. But our favorite part.... hand feeding the deer! That was such a fun experience!

Such a fun, unexpected day at a zoo/children's museum kind of place and did I mention it was free?!
