Jacksonville and Amelia Island

The kids were super excited to have Aunt Elena and cousin Alecs come stay with us in Jacksonville.
While we waited for them to arrive, we checked out the friendship fountain downtown and the St Johns River.

The Alsop Bridge looked different than any we've seen before. When we watched it open for
a boat, we understood why. It doesn't swing up like others, the entire middle segment lifts straight up.

Dancing on park benches....why not?!

Once they arrived we spent a few hours exploring the MOSH (Museum of Science and History).
This is the entrance to the body exhibits. Ha!

They have a nice collection of live animals on display.

Lots of snakes.

These two baby alligators were super cute!

We really enjoyed the exhibits here, but the best part was watching the
science experiments in the lab. There was fire, explosions, smoke and electricity.

At one point Alecs and Asher (and his light-up shoes) volunteered to help with an experiment. First we watched as Alecs put her hand on the electrostatic generator and we watched her hair stand on end. Then Asher stood beside her and when they touched, his shoes lit up! It was so fun that once the lab time was over, the guy let us do it again, this time using Aunt Elena on the ball and we watch both Journey's and Asher's shoes light up.

We can never pass up the wind tunnel, this time with Aunt Elena.

We had so much fun at the museum that we actually returned a few days later.

The Jacksonville Landing is just on the other side of the river, so we walked over the
bridge and had some delicious pizza at the landing while sitting outside overlooking the river.

We stayed just north of Jacksonville at Pecan Park which happens to be adjacent to a flea market. We walked over and had fun walking thru the booths. One was selling pets, but not the typical ones. Fluffy bunnies, quarter-sized turtles, a pygmy goat, hedgehog, ground hog and 5 mini pigs. The smallest pig was maybe 4 inches long and a few inches tall, only three weeks old. Cute but seems way too young to be away from his mommy. While walking thru the campground we met a nice couple who travel full-time with their FIVE birds who have their own separate trailer!

One of the days we drove over to Amelia Island and played on the beach. It was a foggy day, but it just made
the beach look more interesting to me. I caught a couple fun shots of Alecs and Elena. Unfortunately my kids
slept in the truck with Daddy the whole time we were there.

They did wake up in time to play at the pirate playground on the island.

Journey is taking Elena's ice cream order.

  1. So cool to see these pictures at my old stomping grounds. My husband worked in that Wells Fargo building in Jacksonville and we've also been to MOSH. And my kids love the pirate playground on Amelia Island. I took them there lots of times to get out if the house when we had house showings. That was only a few months ago, seems strange!
