After exploring the high desert, Cesar brought us down to the valley to a river access he knew about. We parked along a road and walked over a bridge then turned right to follow a path that followed the river in both directions.
The path narrowed and continued on higher ground between the river to the right and an irrigation channel to the left.
We reached the access point and although it was a really cool place, Asher was disappointed that it wasn't a place he could fish. We waded in the clear, cold water a bit and enjoyed the view.
Afterwards we continued up the trail a little further to see if Asher could find a spot to fish.
While we didn't find another access point, we did see a farm with a few alpacas and spotted the overlook along the right to the right where we looked out over the valley earlier in the day. There are varying levels of air pollution, that can make it easier to see the volcanoes on some days than others. The snow kind of looks like clouds in these photos.
On our way back over the bridge, Asher briefly dropped his line in while I looked for birds. Under the bridge on a rock, I noticed a Torrent Duck! I spent many days checking rivers in Ecuador for this bird. It was nice to find one here! The photo isn't great since it was very distant and in the shade.
On our way home we saw a shepherd moving his flock thru the streets. I was really shocked to see this happening last week and happy to be quick enough to get a photo this time.
Such a fun day in some wild spaces! Just what we needed!
