Within a Gypsum Cave

Daddy remembered visiting a cave years ago with his friend, Courtney, somewhere along Lake Mead. I was able to find it on the map and we went to check it out on our way home from Valley of Fire. But first we stopped to see Lake Mead. The water levels are at record lows and threatening the ever growing population that depends on this water for life. Boats are getting stranded, "things" once hidden underwater are becoming revealed. It's a scary situation. We used to camp along the lake when we lived here. Now the lake is so far from the "shore"!

We found the Callville Wash Trail along 41A. This place was begging to be explored. Loved all the colors, especially the red earth.

We found veins of gypsum in the ground and hills.

Finally we found the cave.

A Say's Phoebe was nesting in the walls, but we saw no bats.

Huge sections of gypsum were found along the walls inside the cave.

We headed home just as a storm passed by.
