Lake Kaweah

Finding a place to camp that was convenient to visit both Sequoia and Kings Canyon was a challenge. While they are adjacent to each other, the road which they share is narrow and winding with a steep drop off one side. You cannot take an RV like ours into the park, nor would you want to. It was crazy enough with the truck!

I was delighted to find a campsite at Horse Creek Campground on Lake Kaweah, located near the south entrance to Sequoia. From here it would take three hours to do the Sequoia, Kings Canyon and back loop (without stopping). Perfect.

After the cooler weather in Yosemite, we were surprised to find 90+ weather here. Since we were dry camping, we opened the awning and took advantage of the shade.

This is a really pretty lake with five or so campgrounds along the shore. The lake was really high and had flooded our campground. You can see the trees should not be in the lake. There is a road and row of campsites that are underwater in this photo.

Asher went fishing a few times, from our campsite and from the rocks near the bridge. I don't think he had any luck here, but it was a lovely start to our day.

You can actually see our RV on the left edge along the water (below).

We swung by the marina, but no fishing allowed there.

Towards town we found a nice spot along the river. Swallows were nesting under the bridge, so I was able to watch them hunt and feed young while Asher fished.

This area is very beautiful with green farms beneath sloping mountains. We spotted a coyote running thru one of the farms.

Tomorrow:  Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks!
