Yosemite's Mirror Lake

We'd been advised to spend a day hiking to Mirror Lake in Yosemite Valley. Though the suggested route combination was 6 miles including 600 granite steps, we chose a more direct route from Curry Village, that ended up being about the same distance anyway. Ha!

Daddy and I have been using iNaturalist for awhile, and now Asher is using it on a regular basis. I love that he's interested in identifying what he finds. (iNaturalist is a free app that can identify anything living - plants, animals, insects, fungus.... If the app can't identify it based on location and photo, it can be left as unidentified and another user will most likely identify it for you!)

The air was much cooler as we walked thru these large boulders. The kids were growing tired, so they took a short break on one.

And we finally made it to Mirror Lake. A nice, fairly popular spot to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

The bright, green grasses were waving in the breeze. Such a mesmerizing thing to watch.

It wasn't until we crossed the river that we realized Half Dome was right behind us.

A great last hike in Yosemite National Park!

May Lake {Yosemite}

We spent one day hiking to May Lake in the center of Yosemite. What was listed as a moderately difficult 2.4 mile hike, was actually a 6 mile hike due to the road being gated from Tioga Road! Ugh!

The guys were at least relieved to have a little window of cell signal for the walk along the road. It's tough not having cell service for 10 days!

We found a cool stream with multiple cascading waterfalls along the road, a spot we would not have been able to enjoy if we'd driven past here to the trailhead.

As we neared the trailhead, we found the reason it was still closed. Snow and ice remained in patches.

Finally we made it to the trailhead, where we found this welcome sight, a small mirror lake. Our real hike would now begin.

Once we climbed high enough to see Half Dome in the distance, we knew the lake wouldn't be much farther.

May Lake is really beautiful with snow around it and dusting the mountains.

Daddy and the kids had a contest to see who could keep their feet in the ice cold water longest. Daddy won!

Time to head back down.
